Artist talk: Sharon Hayes: Echo

Moderna Museet is one of Europe’s leading museums of modern and contemporary art. Our vision is to continue to work inthe open and experimental spirit for which Moderna Museet has always been known. The presence of the art and the artists is our key concern, along with our dialogue with an actively participating audience. By developing this interaction, we build a Museum for the future.

Sharon Hayes: Echo
Moderna Museet, Stockholm April 13–August 11, 2019
Curator: Lena Essling
In performances, photographs, sound and video works, Sharon Hayes transfers the private address to a public space. With her ”Lesbian Love Tour” in 1996, which visited forty- ve “lesbian living rooms” in almost as many cities, Sharon Hayes brought political activism to the art scene. Twenty-two years later, she remains one of the most important figureheads of American contemporary art. In the exhibition “Sharon Hayes: Echo” you meet an artistic practice that explores
the power of the spoken word, from an entirely personal address to activism on urgent social issues.
